Condition good-very good a little rubbing to corners and edges front hinge cracked on volume I leather chipped at head and tail of spine with loss on Vol 1 no loss on vol 2 a few spots to first and last few pages in each volume toning to a few pages and some offsetting but generally in very clean condition throughout. Title pages printed in red and black finely executed engraved portrait frontispiece in volume 1 and 6 full page engravings all executed by F. Chereau. Inside cover labelled with the crest of the Campbells of Netherplace a noble family from Scotland. Tome Second: 5 407 2 pp. Tome Troisieme: 5 407 2 pp. Tome Quartrieme: 5 308 2 pp. Nicolas Boileau was an influential French poet during the late 1600s and early 1700s credited with reforming the French poetical style. There would exist an edition of Boileau's pieces dating from 1670 which Boileau mentions without stating the date but which appears untraceable; Brunet cites it in commentary without giving a date. Contemporary full marbled sheep binding. Jansenist spine with raised bands. Black title-label. Generally rubbed. 2 corners slightly bumped. Missing the second leaf completing the privilege final lines indicating the date. The two frontispieces are also missing one should appear before the title the other before the Lutrin.
