The first English translation appearing in 1682. This would be the second issue of the second edition published the same year imprint varies. Boileau's mock-heroic poem first appeared in French in 1674 and considered his best satire. It deals with a quarrel between two ecclesiastical priest over where to place a lectern in a church. Its strident mockery of idle monks luxurious canons and the abuse of French jurisprudence created controversy at the time. Two British literary figures were involved in this translation with literary criticism and translation by Nicholas Rowe 1674-1718 and Preface by John Ozell. London. Printed for R. Burrough's and J.
