19601092The Bodley Head 1960. 1st UK 1st impression. Hardback. Very good/Very good. This is the French cult classic of the 1960s and plunges us straight into the Gauloises and coffee-scented flavours of the Parisian boulevards seen through the eyes of the astute gamine Zazie navigating her first visit to the capital. Originally published in French as Zazie dans le Métro this is a scarce book in this format. From the original French full of the word-play argot and witticisms Queneau was known for this was also a difficult book to translate and has been done so marvellously here. There is a hint of tanning to page and text block edges and in the jacket spine is sunned or discoloured with a little discolouration to top and bottom edges. A little grubby to rear. The Bodley Head unknown
