The original typed manuscript of her translation is also included and is signed and inscribed in French by Claudel and dated 16 Janvier 1930. Marguerite Mespoulet. Referenced by: Wise T. J. Ruskin I 2 although in her letter Tuell considers this not a Wise forgery. Very good paperback copy; edges slightly dust-dulled and nicked. Light tanning to pages as with age. SIGNED by Charles Eliot Norton with a donation of the item to Anne Tuell by Goodspeed referenced in the letter. Claudel's opinions of the Jews ranged from stale French-Catholic anti-Semitism to pro-Israel admiration and we find all of these shades in this crucial piece published in Le Figaro March 10 1951 and in the Cahiers Paul Claudel no. 7 "La Figure d'Israël" 1968 pp. 350-53.
