Written by Doris May Lessing a British novelist who was awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature. In awarding the prize the Academy described her as "that epicist of the female experience who with scepticism fire and visionary power has subjected a divided civilisation to scrutiny". Lessing was the oldest person ever to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature at age 87. This set contains: The Four-Gated City 1969. The concluding novel in Lessing's semi-autobiographical series The Children of Violence. Moving to London Martha "is integrally part of the social history of the time - the Cold War the Aldermaston Marches Swinging London the deepening of poverty and social anarchy." The novel extends into science fiction depicting a dystopian future following the destruction of Britain. Briefing for a Descent into Hell 1971. A psychological novel. A well-dressed but disheveled man is found wandering alone at night on London's Embankment.
