Piero Barbera, il grande editore fiorentino del XIX secolo, ci delizia con le sue considerazioni e osservazioni sull'arte della stampa negli Stati Uniti d'America, ove si reca a far visita agli stabilimenti delle grandi e rinomate "university presses" e alla tipografia di Theodore Low De Vinne, il famoso editore e tipografo americano, riportandone interessanti insegnamenti e osservazioni sui progressi tecnologici d'oltreoceano e fornendoci nel contempo un interessante resoconto sullo stato dell'arte tipografica nordamericana.

Piccole spellature al dorso, bella copia. SOLO IL QUINTO ED ULTIMO VOLUME INTERAMENTE DEDICATO ALLA TIPOGRAFIA. Oltre all'ampia parte dedicata alle origini della stampa (in cui l'Amati mette in dubbio la priorità di Gutenberg), il volume contiene una sorta di repertorio analitico dei prototipografi, suddiviso per nazioni e, al loro interno, per località: la parte sull'Italia è quasi un'anticipazione del Lexicon Typographicum del Fumagalli, con molte notizie di prima mano raccolte dall'autore nei suoi studi e nell'attività di bibliotecario. Ricordiamo anche che l'Amati pubblicò un Manuale di Bibliologia tra i primi nel suo genere. Giacinto Amati fu Conservatore della Biblioteca Ambrosiana.
Milano, coi tipi di Giovanni Pirotta, 1830, un volume in-8 grande, privo di brossura e sciolto, a pieni margini, pp. 769, [3]. Con ritratto dell'autore in litografia all'antiporta e una tavola f.t. Il volume è l'ultimo dell'edizione ed è da rilegare, ma è molto interessante poiché è quello interamente dedicato alla storia della tipografia. Oltre ai lineamenti storici contiene un repertorio analitico dei tipografi antichi, suddiviso per nazioni e, al loro interno, per località.
<p>32 cm, in 4°, rilegatura coeva in mezza pelle con titolo e fregi impressi in oro su tassello al dorso, p. (2), (XII), 115, (3). Con 3 tavole incise a piena pagina raffiguranti "Marchi diversi osservati nelle carte delle edizioni ferraresi del secolo XV". Due timbri di biblioteca privata al frontespizio lontano dal testo. Il noome dell'autore D. Giuseppe Antonelli vice-bibliotecario, compare alla carta (V). Esemplare fresco e marginoso.</p>

This is a very good softcover copy with just light wear. Completely clean inside. Some toning and moisture staining to the bottom edge of the front and back covers and spine. It is faint, but there. No apparent bleed through to the inside. This is a sale catalog for an auction held at Galerie 1900-2000, in Paris during October 19 to November 1, 1984. The auction contained paintings, sculptures, drawings, games, and other decorative arts works, all related to sports. Most of the lots are from the late 19th century through the 1920's. 467 lots in the sale. All illustrated in black & white, some color. Essay by Felix Marcilhac. Prices realized list laid in. 12" high X 9" wide, 92 pages.

Small 4to (235 x 145 mm), 2 works in one, recent half calf to style, marbled boards, spine tooled in gilt. A survey of the principal public and private libraries in England, listing highlights of the collections and concluding with brief accounts of 30 important English book auctions from the 17th century onwards. William Beckford assisted in the compilation of this work, particularly in the description of his own library at Fonthill. The Dialogue in the Shades is a two-part pamphlet of satirical verse is a response to Dibdin's Lincolne Nosegay and the Bibliographical Decameron. The attribution varies from William Beckford to the Clarke brothers. This second edition is issued with an additional half-title, title-page with note from 'Mr. Wynkem' on the verso, and with the addition of The Diary of Roger Payne, a work in the same vein. Book shows very little wear but has a bump at lower spine. Binding is solid and square, covers have sharp corners, exterior shows no other blemishes, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Very large book with full color, full page plates. Dust jacket shows the slightest signs of shelf wear only, no tears. Dust jacket is wrapped in a clear protective cover.

Ferretti e Benedetto XIV), vertenti sui misteri della Trinità, Resurrezione e dell'Ascensione. Complessivamente 16 titoli legati in un volume in-4, piena pergamena coeva, dorso liscio con titolo e piccoli fregi in oro. Esempio della raffinatezza raggiunta dalla tipografia romana nel ‘700.

The translators from the original Catalan to French are Guy Levis Mano (1904-1980; also known under the pseudonym Jean Garamond) - an eminent French poet, translator, typographer and publisher, and Josep Palau i Fabre (1917-2008) - the renowned Spanish Catalan poet and writer, a major representative of Catalan literature during the post-World War period and an eminent authority on the work of Pablo Picasso. 320x195mm. Edizione originale, prima tiratura. Ottimo esemplare con la bellissima sovracoperta pittorica di Fulvio Bianconi in condizioni eccellenti, senza alcuna riparazione, integra e pulita (dorso e piatto posteriore leggermente scuriti; minimi e appena percettibili principi di separazione alle cerniere; una veniale millimetrica mancanza alla testa del dorso); interno pulito, con le pagine appena ombreggiate ai bordi e i piatti del cartonato solo leggerissimamente imbarcati. Una copia eccezionale di grande qualità, rarissima a trovarsi in queste condizioni. Esordio narrativo e opera narrativa più rappresentativa del neorealismo pasoliniano. Il romanzo fu pubblicato da Garzanti per intervento di Attilio Bertolucci e la prima tiratura del 27 aprile 1955, piuttosto limitata (alcuni stimano 1500 esemplari) andò esaurita in quindici giorni. Pasolini e l'editore Livio Garzanti subirono un processo per oscenità, al quale testimoniarono Giuseppe Ungaretti e Carlo Bo, conclusosi con l’assoluzione.
