Edizione originale. «Nero A.O.» -- Oltre alla celebre «Tavolozza delle possibilità tipografiche», «another advertising project, however, receives a positive reception, this one also created during the same period together with Muggiani, marked by an improved economy of means. It is the promotional brochure “Nero A.O.” 1936 for the company Concentra/F.lli Hartmann, and features a new printing ink, appropriately renamed with a nod to the war going on in Africa, as is the photographic idea on the cover; inside, instead, text and images alternate in a clear layout, with large, well-spaced type, printed in color and, on the front, suggestive black-and-white images (photo- montage and typographic compositions) or demonstrative images displaying the product’s qualities (print proofs with different screens)» (Colizzi). First Edition with plates and facsimiles in the text; terracotta cloth gilt back blue endpapers a very good bright clean copy in unclipped dustwrapper. WITH AN A.L.s FROM THE AUTHOR LOOSELY INSERTED. The letter is dated 18 September 1974 and written from Meynell's residence at The Grey House, Lavenham, Suffolk. It is highly characteristic, referring as it does to the design shortcomings of a published document -'the matter of the Report is full of interest - but its presentation - ugh! What conceivable justification is there for the vast head-of-page margins (and diminutive tail-margins) on type pages - made all the sillier by the full page arrangements of illustrated pages.' A copy of a newspaper obituary of the author is also included. A SPLENDID ASSOCIATION COPY OF MEYNELL'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY , ACCOMPANIED BY A TYPICALLY FORTHRIGHT CREATIVE OPINION FROM ONE THE LEADING BRITISH DESIGNERS AND TYPOGRAPHERS OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY.
