1969000122Hanoi: Vietnam Institute of Archaeology 1969. The official journal of archaeological research for the Democratic Republic of Vietnam a complete 30 year run from the inception of this mostly quarterly journal in June 1969 through to end 1998. The set includes 1272 articles in Vietnamese 664 of which are followed by brief abstracts in English and 38 additionally in French. Over 500 of the articles are illustrated in b&w and occasionally in later issues in colour and an additional 200 articles contain graphical information in the form of maps charts graphs and/or Sino-Vietnamese characters. This journal thus contains the complete published record of official archaeological activities in one of the last frontiers of archaeology in Asia. Until 1975 the journal of necessity covered only activities in the northern half of the country but shortly following unification activities are recorded throughout the territory of Vietnam as known today. Ancient Vietnam was home to some of the world's earliest agrarian settlements; excavated material remains indicate the presence of organized human habitation dating back more than 4000 years. Khao Co Hoc documents the archaeological exploration of these early cultures. Topics range from the description of paleolithic sites through neolithic early metal age proto-historic and historic era finds. Great attention has been focused on early cultures including the Hoabinhian Phung Nguyen Dong Dau Go Mun Dong Son Sa Hyunh and Oc'Eo as well as the period of the Hung Kings the formation of the state of Lac Viet the later reigns of the indigenous historic rulers and the development of Buddhism and Buddhist arts in Vietnam. The evolution of early technologies such as jade carving bronze casting pottery and later glazed ceramics is another area of focus for articles in the journal. This set is an essential tool for anyone researching this area whether archaeologist art historian or serious amateur scholar. Virtually unobtainable in western or Asian libraries or research institutes outside of Vietnam. 105 journal issues 9518 pp. bound into 11 volumes each gold stamped blue cloth text in Vietnamese many with Western language abstracts. Some number of earlier issues appear to be photo-reproduced possibly the manner in which they were originally distributed. Earlier issues printed on inferior paper quite rough and brown although remaining supple and robust and completely legible. Occasional marks and soiling on some pages. Some binding spines a little sunned. PLEASE NOTE : TOTAL 11 VOLUMES; ONLY SHIPPED BY AIRMAIL - WILL REQUIRE EXTRA POSTAGE - PLEASE EMAIL FOR POSTAL CHARGES TO YOUR DESTINATION . Cloth. At least one of the posters a double-sided one promoting the screening of Mikhai Semesh's Hungarian movie "The Magic Fur Coat" was created by renowned graphic designers Anton Mechkuev 1920 - 2011 and Grigor Angelov 1941 - . Another one for the premiere of the Bulgarian drama "The Best Person I Know" featured beloved Bulgarian actress Nevena Kokanova 1938 - 2000 known as the "first lady of Bulgarian cinema." Several of the posters listed opera and jazz performances a Greek play and puppet shows at several major theaters. One was a propaganda for the "Bulgarian Musical Youth" Movement for all young people who were Komsomol members. Various unknown

196631168Copenhagen 1966-1970. Minor scuffing to some of the illustrated wrappers with scattered foxing to their versos else a near fine set. An impressive chronicle of the international avant-garde of the 1960s situated within its broader post-War contexts. Artist's magazine all published. Small quarto. An entire run of 17 volumes from this pioneering Danish arts journal co-edited by the hyper-disciplinary artist Per Kirkeby; one of Denmark's most celebrated painters. Emerging as an illustrated review of post-War painting sculpture and cinema e.g. Mark Tobey Alberto Giacometti Sergei Eisenstein the journal gradually came to embrace avant-garde tendencies from both Europe and America e.g. Joseph Beuys John Cage Henry Flynt Guerilla Art Action Group with a growing appetite for architecture and new media. So much so that the annual 1969 issue which broke from the journal's quarterly structure explicitly adopted architecture as part of its new title Arkitektur og Billedkunst with its contents arranged into three broad themes: Utopia Escapism and Reality. Notably in addition to an essay by Nam June Paik on the emergence of digital culture as well as a rich representation of Archigram projects this issue featured arguably the earliest articulation of cyberspace—over a decade before William Gibson—from the artist/architect duo Susanne Ussing and Carsten Hoff "Form Rum Natur Computer". By the final year of publication 1970 as themes became more political e.g. Situationism radical urbanism post-structuralism Per Kirkeby had officially joined the editorial board—having earlier contributed an impressive range of content: a psychedelic cartoon interpreting Henry David Thoreau's Walden a photographic essay on Copenhagen's bus network an exploration of arctic geology and a treatise on Pop Art as History. Contents thoroughly illustrated often in color including installation and performance views. Text in Danish with some English. This set accompanied by prospectus materials and/or press releases from 1966 1967 1969 and 1970 as well as the folded color poster Fisse Er Godt Nok designed by Bjørn Nørgaard and Erik Hagens for the final issue.
