A satirical poem written by Lord Byron which was first published anonymously in March 1809. Byron wrote the work in response to the scathing criticism of his first book of poetry Hours of Idleness by Henry Brougham. Alexander Gordon 1781 - 1873 British officer during the Napoleonic Wars. He was commissioned a captain in the 15th Hussars and he fought in the Peninsular War.
