Laid in is an June 26 1967 Autograph Postcard Signed from Vivien Leigh to actress Lilli Palmer and her husband Carlos Thompson: "Quite obviously you and Carlos think they are a bore but I am far more worried about L. I would love to see you fondly as always Vivien". â€L.†refers to Laurence Olivier by then married to Joan Plowright was Olivier’s new wife after the divorce. Leigh was worried about Olivier’s workload and onset of stage fright. The bores are believed to be the Lunts with whom Lilli Palmer’s husband Carlos had an unmotivated quarrel as he apparently had with so many others. The play Look After Lulu starred Vivien Leigh with its first night performance on July 29th 1959. This published book has a printed dedication of the play to Leigh by Coward. Additionally laid in is a printed card which reads: “With Mr. Noel Coward’s Compliments.†Former ownership signature whited-out on front flyleaf else a very good copy in a very good price-clipped dust jacket. Etching hand colored. 8 ½ x 11 ½" trimmed to just above the top rule; at bottom trimmed with the loss of the publisher's information. Verso shows removal from album. Colors excellent. <br />The publication in which this etchings appeared Les Alliés à Paris en 1815 is composed of two suites the first of six plates as here; the second of eight plates. All hand colored not numbered. The scenes represent the "galanterie" between the coalition of allied armies Prussian Russian and others who were quartered until October of 1815 in the French capital. after the victory of Waterloo Various artists French and otherwise took advantage of this quartering to portray uniformed men from all over Europe. Colas notes: The etchings are very interesting for the uniforms and also for the French women's dress of the period. Colas notes that two suites are almost never found complete. In Colas' time 1933 each engraving could sell from 400 to 800 Francs. Noël-Dieudonné Finart was a painter of history particularly of military history Finart exhibited at the Salon since 1817 with "Champ de manoeuvres de Clignancourt". Archive of original candid single- and double-weight photographs and color transparencies for the 1957 French film "Mademoiselle et son gang" from French distributor and press and film agency Cinedis. Nearly all feature starring actress Renaud in glamour poses some reclining some ascending a staircase in a shimmering paisley dress with matching high heels. Several candid photos feature racing drivers Harry Schell and Peter Collins director Jean Boyer and other members of the film crew. <br/><br/>Included in the archive are 12 black-and-white single-weight on-the-set photos with holograph annotations in ink on the versos and 28 images of Renaud in glamour poses: 6 double-weight full-color glamour portraits Gevaert paper rubber-stamped PHOTO COULEURS / HERDET PHOTO on the versos 2 full-color transparencies 20 smaller mounted full-color transparencies. Original photo envelopes also present. <br/><br/>Renaud who later became a prominent AIDS activist stars as a writer whose crime fiction entry attracts the attention of swindlers even as she joins a gang and becomes its leader. Little known film by Boyer whose credits include "Calais-Douvres" 1931 "End of the World" 1931 "Roses noires" 1935 "Serenade" 1940 and "One Does Not Die That Way" 1946. <br/><br/>Cinedis was prominent during the French New Wave distributing and promoting some of the genre's greatest films including "Jules and Jim" "Le Trou" "The Gates of Paris" even the popular "Don Camillo" series starring Fernandel. <br/><br/>Photos range in size the smallest being 3.75 x 4.75 inches the largest being 6.75 x 9.25 inches; transparencies 4 x 4.75 inches mounted transparencies 2 x 2 inches in 9.5 x 12-inch black mounts 12 windows each 1 mount with only 8 transparencies present. Housed in a cardboard paper box from the As de Trefle company with title label for the film on the lid. <br/><br/>Curling to photos box Good only else Near Fine overall. Mazeppa bound without the half title and the rear ads apparently the 2nd issue the imprint was moved to the verso of the ads page for the 2nd issue. The Deformed Transformed is the second edition. 80pp; 69 1 pp; 88pp.<br/><br/>The fragment included after Mazeppa is the result of the famous ghost writing contest which resulted in Frankenstein.
