Folded a few closed tears repaired on the reverse with archival washi red chop on reverse causing a little show-through at lower right. Overall very good. 45.5 x 71cm. Attractive black and white 1902 theatre poster advertising two performances on the 1 January 1902 of the Yamaguchi Theatre Group . The matinee performance starting at 9am was a patriotic play of five acts titled "Flag Fluttering Wind of Japan". The evening performance comprising six acts began at 5pm and appears to feature various kabuki plays under the title "Actors' Temperaments". <br> <br>The Yamaguchi Theatre Group was a part of the Shinpa 新派Theatre movement which incorporated both modern and traditional theatrical themes during Meiji period. This style and theme remains popular up till present day. Interestingly in this theatre group actors were all male playing both male and female roles. . unknown

First edition of this very scarce sales promotional catalogue for the Empire Producing Co. which partnered with Rotary Clubs Fire Departments Public Schools and many other non-profit organizations from California to Texas up to Chicago for fundraising theatre productions. Pitched as a way to motivate organization membership advertise to the community and helping solve the “juvenile delinquency problems in every town by giving the youngsters something to do†Empire organized community entertainment such as Uncle Ezry’s Hayloft Jamboree. They fielded reps in every territory provided sets scripts entertainers directors seed money and advertising and would use the local talent to augment post-World War II America’s enthusiasm for country music. They typically targeted smaller towns and supposedly were generating from $ 500.00-$ 1400.00 per production in 1949. The typescript sheets by Mr. Cole show that although his quotas for the July 1945-1946 year were $ 500000 he only succeeded in contracting 61 shows in Texas Southern and Midwest towns which actually generated about $ 175000 of which Empire would have received half. The play centered on Jazz musicians and junkies waiting on their dealer was an early realistic portrayal of heroin addiction at the end of a decade beset by drug hysteria. 11'' x 8.5'' and 13.25'' x 6.75''. Playbill for a Cleveland production of Little Miss Brown a play by Philip Bartholomae. Most interesting to us is the prevalence of local advertisements. In the early years of automobile manufacturing Cleveland rivaled Detroit. There are no fewer than three advertisements for Cleveland-built electric cars including the Hupp-Yates the Baker and the Rauch and Lang. These last two firms merged in 1914 dating this playbill to slightly earlier. We don't locate any copies of this or any Colonial Theatre Magazine in OCLC. Scarce. [Colonial Theatre] unknown
