The recipient Liz-Anne Bawden was editor of THE OXFORD COMPANION TO FILM 1976 and lecturer on Film at the Slade School. Her TIMES obituary notes particularly her friendship with Truffaut with whom she also maintained a correspondence. Importante comédie en un acte de Guitry la pièce est créée au Théâtre de la Madeleine à l'automne 1936 avec Guitry en Cambronne et Marguerite Moreno en épouse anglaise - avec 110 représentations jusqu'au 3 janvier 1937. Loin du simple calembour historique Guitry suit une piste soufflée par Edmond Rostand en 1912 « Cambronne a épousé une Anglaise : n'y a-t-il pas là un sujet de comédie » et condense son art de la brièveté en vers : une demi-heure d'« irrespect » parfaitement tenue bientôt portée à l'écran avec la distribution de la scène Delubac et Pauline Carton incluses pour un film présenté au cinéma Normandie le 26 mars 1937 - un tournage fulgurant rappelé par le chef-opérateur Philippe Agostini véritable captation « au théâtre ce soir » avant l'heure. In French. Good- condition. On Sacha Guitry from a public domain encyclopedia: Sacha Guitry 1885 – 1957 was a French film actor director screenwriter and playwright. Born in St. Petersburg Russia he was the son of Lucien Germain Guitry 1860–1925 a major Parisian stage actor who spent nine years at the Michel Theater in St. Petersburg before returning to France. It was during this time in Russia that Alexandre-Pierre Georges Guitry was born and nicknamed Sacha. An intellect and a prolific writer Guitry had already written the first of his 120 plays at age 17. In 1918 his theatrical production premiered in Paris to critical acclaim. In addition to his famous plays Sacha Guitry wrote acted and directed many films. He went on to be recognized as a truly innovative director sometimes compared to Orson Welles because of his techniques and numerous innovations. He died in Paris in 1957.
