Raro.
in-12° (15 x 9 cm); legatura in cartone grezzo dell'epoca con il dorso molto consumato e parzialmente mancante; pp. [1] c. di tav. all'antiporta (qui mancante), (2 su 6), XIV, 312, [5] c. di tav. (qui mancanti); carte in barbe; manca l'incisione all'antiporta (sostituita da una ristampa attuale, su carta slegata), in cui è riportato il ritratto dell'autore all'interno di un medaglione ovale, su telo steso tra alberi, con al di sotto un fauno ed un lupo; vignetta incisa al frontespizio, in cui il titolo ed i dati editoriali sono all'interno di una deliziosa cornice decorata con maschere e strumenti teatrali; dopo il frontespizio mancano le tre pagine della dedica dell'editore, Giuseppe Nave, "alla cittadina ambasciatrice Giulia Clary Bonaparte" (sostituite con ristampe attuali, su carte slegate); a seguire, l'opera è composta dalle note relative alla vita dell'autore Giovanni Battista Guarini (1538-1612), l'argomento della commedia, l'elenco delle "persone che parlano" e, quindi, il testo con il prologo e cinque atti; ognuno dei cinque atti dovrebbe essere preceduto da una incisione fuori testo a piena pagina, qui mancanti e sostituite con copie ristampate su carte volanti. Edizione rarissima di questa famosa tragicommedia del Guarini. Battista Guarini, o Giovanni Battista Guarini (1538-1612), è stato un drammaturgo, scrittore e poeta italiano. Rif.: IT\ICCU\LO1E\022122 (censito un solo esemplare presso la Biblioteca comunale - Palazzo Sormani - Milano). Cond.: Segni d'uso, in particolare con mancanze al dorso. Gore d'umido. Carte in barbe. Opera incompleta (anche se, mancando completamente traccia delle pagine mancanti ed essendo il volume nella sua legatura originale, certamente tali mancanze appaiono risalire all'epoca della pubblicazione di questo volume, per errore dell'editore), nel complesso in discrete condizioni generali.

With the printed slip 'Authors' Note' mounted facing half-title. Loosely inserted is a newspaper obituary of Baillie-Grohman. This copy was formerly in the library of the eminent naval historian J H Owen and bears his dated signature on front free endpaper.
