Privately printed for subscribers of the Casanova Society. Illustrated with four color frontispieces. Rendered from the literal and complete version of Dr. J.C. Mardrus; and collated with other sources; by E. Powys Mathers. This being set number 1656 on Bond paper of a limited edition of 2250 copies the first 750 of which were printed in 16 volumes. No previous ownership marks. Book blocks are untrimmed at fore-edge and bottom top edges are gilt. Binding are worn with wear to head and heels of spines and quarter inch gouge to spine on volume IV. A sound internally clean set in cosmetically worn bindings albeit books are sound with strong hinges tight book blocks and clean pages. Good set. Photographs on request. Detective fiction drama An original production-used script for the Radio 4 'Saturday Play' adapted from the best-selling novel The Body in the Library by Agatha Christie directed by Enyd Williams starring June Whitfield as Miss Marple with Richard Todd Pauline Jameson and Graham Crowden. Quarto 31 x 22cm pp.119 with pp.6-8 of an additional scene bound in at rear. Simply bound without covers secured with split pin to top left corner. Title page reassigned to rear. Housed in manilla folder with title label. Actor's notations in pencil and red ink. Expected handling occasional corner turned generally well preserved. First broadcast 22nd May 1999. The working copy of Graham Crowden his scenes as Sir Henry Clithering are heavily annotated. Three pages of an additional scene featuring Clithering are bound in at the rear; that scene's pages prior to Clithering's entrance are not present. Radio scripts seldom make it out of the studio their work being done in a day or two and complete annotated copies are scarcer still. Graham Crowden 1922-2010 was a Scottish actor part of the Royal Court's repertory company under George Devine a leading member of the legendary Old Vic/National Theatre companies of the 1960s and 70s. He was known for his many appearances on screen often playing eccentric scientist teacher and doctor characters. Television credits include Black Beauty Father Brown Porridge Doctor Who Rumpole and Foyle's War. His film appearances include The Little Prince Jabberwocky For Your Eyes Only and Out of Africa. Following active service in the First World War Eden read Oriental languages at Oxford. He was elected to the House of Commons in 1923. In 1935 he was appointed foreign secretary a position he resigned in 1938 to protest Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement of Nazi Germany. When Churchill became Prime Minister in 1940 he was named secretary of state for war and later during the Second World War once more served as foreign secretary. Eden succeeded Churchill as Prime Minister in 1955. In 1956 his failure to respond effectively during the Suez Crisis and the subsequent loss of party and public support would ultimately lead to his resignation from office in 1957.
