Il a ainsi joué un rôle décisif dans l’avènement de la publicité commerciale et culturelle.Surnommé par ses contemporains « le roi de l’affiche » Jules Chéret a su créer un style très efficace de Parisienne aux allures euphoriques et aux couleurs attrayantes.Parallèlement à sa carrière d’affichiste ce livre étudie un autre aspect de son Å“uvre : celle du décorateur qui passa la seconde partie de sa vie à égayer les intérieurs de ses mécènes mais aussi de l’hôtel de ville de Paris du musée Grévin ou encore de la préfecture de Nice.Catalogue de l’exposition consacrée à Jules Chéret au musée de la Publicité cet ouvrage est également le premier catalogue raisonné de son Å“uvre qui reproduise en couleurs l’ensemble de ses affiches – plus de 1 400 – conservées pour la plupart au musée de la Publicité et à la Bibliothèque nationale de France.
