Dr. Johnson Sir Joshua Reynolds and others befriended him and both are listed here in the Subscriber's List. He was a prominent Freemason. Als Dramendichter unbedeutend, liegt sein Verdienst in der Hebund der deutschen Bühne, so hat er sich um die Erstlingsdramen v. Schiller verdient gemacht. Interessant ist auch die Besetzungsliste, Graf Wallori, der Einsiedler v. Carmel wird von Iffland gespielt. In dem, a. d. S I-XIV, abgedruckten Brief d. Autors an F. W. Gotter, klassizistischer Dramatiker u. Lyriker d. Zt., der einen regelmäßigen formglatten Dramenstil nach französischem Vorbild vertrat, erörtert D. die Frage, ob ein Drama besser in Reimen (wie vorliegender "Mönch v. Condition of the books is GOOD ; Vol 1 2 and 4 have weak and cracked front hinges vol 3 cover is detached. Edges are worn and chipped spines are dry and crackled with some wear.
