The letter is addressed to a 'Miss Sage' whom Anna Neagle thanks for a letter. She goes on to remark that 'as you saw we are having lovely and most appreciative audiences and I am very happy to be dancing in a musical again'. The letter is addressed from the Adelphi Theatre in London's West End where Anna Neagle was appearing in Wallace Douglas's hugely successful production of Heneker and Taylor's musical 'Charlie Girl'. It ran for a staggering six years and over 2000 performances earning the actress an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for her enduring popularity. Anna Neagle CBE 1904-1986 the highly popular English stage and film actress and singer was awarded the CBE in 1952 and created a Dame in 1969. Her most memorable film appearances include Nurse Edith Cavell 1939 No No Nanette 1940 The Yellow Canary 1943 and Odette 1950 unknown

Fine. <p>Houseman acknowledges Jean Dalrymple's note to him about Dennis Hedlund and writes that he will await his call.<p>John Houseman 1902-1988 was a British American actor and producer who became known for his highly publicized collaboration with Orson Welles from their days in the Federal Theatre Project through the production of "Citizen Kane". As the producer of "The Blue Dahlia" he also collaborated with Raymond Chandler who wrote the screenplay for that film. As an actor he is probably best known for his role in "The Paper Chase" for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Houseman became the founding director of the Drama Division at The Juilliard School and held this position from 1968 until 1976. Unwilling to see Juillard's very first class disbanded upon graduation Houseman and his Juilliard colleague Margot Harley formed them into an independent touring repertory company they named the "Group 1 Acting Company" later renamed The Acting Company.<p>Jean Dalrymple 1902-1998 was the dynamic producer and director of theater and light-opera at Manhattan's City Center. Dalrymple began her career in Vaudeville appearing with James Cagney and Cary Grant in the early 1930s. She was a founding member of the American Theatre Wing the theatre service organization. She worked over the years as a personal manager for the likes of Leopold Stokowski Mary Martin Jose Iturbi Andre Kostalanetz Nathan Milstein and Lily Pons. She began her work at City Center with its founding in 1943 serving as a board member producer and publicist. Her productions there from the 1940s through the 1960s were a revitalizing influence on the whole New York theatre scene. In 1951 Jean Dalrymple married Major-General Philip deWitt Ginder commander of the Thunderbirds in Korea. She was a friend to Presidents and entertainment personalities throughout the world.
