This copy bears an inscription from Sylvia Beach the publisher beneath the ownership signature of Joyce scholar Patricia Hutchins probably executed in the late '40s or early '50s. Includes contributions by Beckett his first appearance in a book Williams Jolas Gilbert McAlmon McGreevy Paul Rodker Budgeon Dixon et al. Together with carbon copies of three letters from Solomon to Beckett and a Typed Letter Signed December 12 1958 from Judith Schmidt at The Grove Press. Solomon wrote to Beckett soliciting a contribution for the Anniversary issue of Esquire Beckett said he had no new material and that he had written nothing since "Krapp's Last Tape". Gilbert Abbott à Beckett was one of the original staff members for "Punch." One of the Victorian era's best-known comedies. This particular copy is bound in full Chocolate Crushed Morocco both covers blind ruled with five raised bands. Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Title in gilt lettering on the spine between the first and second band from the top. Guild of Women-Binders ticket in gilt on the lower leather turnin on the front pastedown. Two faint scratches on the front cover. Spine lightly sunned. Leather offsetting onto free endpapers. Moderate foxing on preliminary pages with a majority of the text and colored plates being uneffected. Title page has small chip in top right corner.
