Thick 8vo publisher's original three-quarter wine-red morocco over cloth covered boards the spine panels elaborately decorated in gilt between raised the bands gilt stopped lettered in gilt in two compartments. xxix 1 539; v 1 555 pp. A good reading copy the hinges strong and sound and the text-block clean and in excellent condition the bindings with some chipping and wear to the spine panels now touched up and protected with plastic dust-jackets. SCARCE IN ANY PRINTING. ONE OF THE MOST ELUSIVE TITLES TO SECURE OF ALL THE GREAT BOOKS OF LITERATURE. ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ ranks with ‘The Three Musketeers’ as the best of Dumas pere’s historical novels-- a series in which the author proposed to reconstruct the entire course of French history.
