Avec sa planche gravée en couleurs et rehaussée toutes deux numérotées 44 en haut à droite et « cachet 42 » au verso de la planche originale. »Je m'ennuie » dit un jour le bon canard Gédéon à son ami Placide. « Pour guérir l'ennui je ne connais pas de meilleur remède que voyager voir du pays » : voici le thème de Gédéon mécano cinquième aventure du célèbre canard de Benjamin Rabier album publié chez Garnier en 1927 après Gédéon Gédéon Sportsman Gédéon en Afrique et Placide et Gédéon. On y retrouve Gédéon Placide le chien et Bout-de-Zan le singe lancés sur les routes de campagne à bord de leur automobile dans une équipée mécanique aussi bruyante que comique. Créé en 1923 Gédéon est l’un des grands personnages de l’imagerie enfantine de l’entre-deux-guerres. Avec lui Rabier déjà passé à la postérité pour avoir « fait sourire les animaux » et pour l’image de la Vache qui rit porte à un rare degré de limpidité son trait de contour la mobilité de ses figures et l’efficacité immédiate de sa narration. Elle sera souvent regardée jusque chez Hergé comme l’une des sources de la ligne claire. L. La première planche laisse voir la sûreté du trait l’économie expressive et la science du mouvement propres à Rabier ; la seconde montre le passage à l’image publiée avec l’éclat décoratif de la couleur. Rare témoignage sur le travail même de l’artiste l’intérêt de l’ensemble tient à la réunion du dessin original et de son état imprimé rehaussé qui permet de suivre d’un seul regard la transformation d’une image de création en image d’album. Some of the pages show little tears stains or pencil scribbles. 235 x 30 cm 5-64 pp. This book contains a large variety of illustrations from full page polychrome to half page and monochrome pictures between the texts. This book contains four humorous stories about a rooster named Kantekleer. The character Kantekleer Cantecleer finds his origins in the fables of Reynard the Fox. In his adventures he often outsmarts his cunning opponents. Marie Hildebrandt 1881-1947 translated these stories in beautiful Dutch verse. The illustrations are by the French illustrator comic book artist and animator Benjamin Rabier 1864 - 1939. His work has inspired many other artists like Hergé and Edmond-François Calvo. For the stories of Kantekleer Rabier used his distinctive style with clear colours and comic like facial expressions. B2335 unknown
