Light shelfwear. Lodewijk Schelfhout 1881–1943 was a pioneering Dutch artist celebrated as the first Cubist in the Netherlands. Influenced by Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso Schelfhout adopted Cubism around 1913 blending its fragmented geometric forms with his unique interpretation. Initially trained as a landscape painter his works transitioned from traditional styles to abstract compositions often depicting urban scenes and still lifes. He was a member of the Hollandsche Kunstenaarskring and contributed significantly to the Dutch avant-garde. Despite his early death Schelfhout’s innovative approach cemented his legacy as a key figure in introducing modernist art to the Netherlands. ; 23 x 28 x 1.8cm; 190 pages . 9462621608 .
