This is the first facsimile edition of Caxton's "Fables of Esope" 1484 STC 175. It reproduces original size the unique perfect copy of the work in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle which contains a life of Aesop and is illustrated with woodcuts. Caxton translated the fables from Julien Macho's 1482 French version and it proved so popular the version was still being printed in 1658. The Scolar Press hardcover books
