17603939<p>An attractive copy of the fourth of five illustrated editions with Richardson's Life of Aesop. It was first published in 1739 with a title-page dated 1740 with subsequent editions in 1749 1753 two issues and 1775. All of the editions are scarce with ESTC listing four copies of the first edition two copies of the second five of the third edition. The 25 engraved plates include delightful illustrations in miniature for each of the fables with a brief caption and fable number given above each illustration. The English verses are here for the first time by Aphra Behn. Includes uncensored the often absent or mutilated plate 17 to the Life. The first edition did not include the Life.
