A partire dalla fine della Seconda guerra mondiale, il panorama culturale francese assiste a una vera e propria Verne renaissance. Ne sono artefici autori del calibro di Michel Butor, Roland Barthes, Michel Serres, Michel Foucault, Pierre Macherey, Jean Chesnaux e Michel de Certeau. Obiettivo generale è quello di sottrarre l'autore di "Ventimila leghe sotto i mari" al genere letterario infantile. Nel perseguire questo nobile intento, però, gli autori dimenticano puntualmente di confrontarsi con la visione coloniale di Verne, e questo proprio nel periodo in cui la Francia, tra il 1947 e il 1962, incrudelisce la sua presenza in Algeria. La ricerca di Fabrizio Denunzio affronta per la prima volta due aspetti inediti di questa vicenda: mentre ricostruisce il colonialismo di Verne attraverso la disamina di romanzi geo-politici come "Ettore Servadac" e "Clovis Dardentor", dimostra la sua rimozione sistemica in tutte le interpretazioni avanzate dagli scienziati umanisti francesi. È questo rimosso che permette di parlare di un inconscio coloniale e consente di individuare la vecchia alleanza tra scienza e dominazione, cara all'Occidente europeo. Autori: Fabrizio Denunzio.
