Rubbing soiling and light chipping to cloth. Several stains to fore edge. Pages toned with foxing and occasional staining. One page toward rear is torn missing the bottom quarter. Both volumes bound as one volume in green cloth with a super colour embossed picture to the front board. Gilt embossed lettering to the front board and spine. No date - c 1920. Volume I 253pp; Volume II 256pp. Rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and to the edges of the boards and corners. Presentation book plate to the front board from a school. A b/w frontispiece illustrated both volumes. Slight split of 2 cm from the head of the spine to the front inner hinge. Further splitting between the title page and contents page leaving the front board slightly shaken. Slight splitting to the rear inner hinge though the board firmly attached. The very corners of a several pages have slightly been turned leaving neat creases. Some foxing and dust soiling to the front and rear end paper and paste down. A slight soil mark to pages 18 and 19 - which looks a bit like soot. Otherwise the book is clean and tight. A lovely good copy of this well known book. George Routledge & Sons Ltd hardcover
