Surnommé de son vivant le Rider Haggard français il est plus connu aujourd'hui en Europe de l'Est où quarante volumes de ses uvres furent publiés dans la Russie impériale en 1911 que dans les pays francophones. Après des études de médecine il se consacre à l'écriture. Le gouvernement lui ayant confié une mission scientifique en Guyane il voyage beaucoup dans les colonies françaises. Ses contes et nouvelles paraissent dans de nombreux journaux tels que Le Figaro et Le Petit Parisien la plupart paraissant en feuilletons avant d'être édités en librairie. Fervent républicain il témoigne dans ses écrits d'une vision nationaliste farouchement anti-allemande anti-anglaise ce qui explique qu'il n'ait pas été publié dans les pays anglo-saxons et colonialiste. unknown
