19495200Paris: Jean Porson 1949. A lovely copy of this illustrated edition of Blue Beard. Clamshell box with coloured illustration of Blue beard holding court pasted to the front of the box which is naturally mainly blue! There is a little rubbing to the edge of the box but overall in very good condition. Inside are a beautiful copy of the illustrated work in glassine cover. The book is one of the copies of Vélin de Rives in leaves under folded cover titled on the first cover. 25 pages 6 unnumbered pages very fresh Full-page engraved colour title and 24 wood-engraved colour miniatures after the miniaturist Henry LEMARIÉ. The limitation is apparently 2000 copies although it has been suggested that far fewer were actually produced. There is also enclosed a copy of the prospectus for "La Belle au Bois Dormant" sleeping beauty. This attractive prospectus holds two parts within it. A coloured prospectus with 16 numbered and unnumbered pages including covers. This includes a coloured cover three large colour illustrations and a final vignette. There is a second identical prospectus but in a black and white state. Far from inferior the illustrations are rather striking in black line drawing. This work is one of three different fairy tales that Lemairié illustrated for Porson. The others are Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Apparently there were originally plans for five works but only these three were completed. 26cm x 17cm. . 26cm x 17cm. Jean Porson unknown
