Housed in two chemises within a vellum-backed slipcase. 12 3/4 x 9 1/4 inches 32.5 x 23.5 cm; 16 sheets printed in color lithography; plus the additional material noted above in the second copy which is printed on paper 1 cm taller than the published work. Leger's strong continuous flow of colour across the broadside illuminates Eluard's elegaic and celebrated poem praising those who struggled in WWII to protect and defend the eternal liberty of France. This copy 'HC/1' of 12 hors-commerce copies from a total of 212 with a warm inscription from Pierre Seghers "A mon ami le plus cher Au poète qui est mon patron en édition et en poésie".
