Bound in full dark green Morocco double gilt ruled with gilt decorations on each board. Raised bands with gilt ruled and decorated compartments. Spine titles in gilt. All edges gilt. Numerous head pieces and int-text b&w illustrations by Jean Gigoux. Square tight and clean throughout with perhaps an errant spot hear or there but barely. Gilt edges a bit dulled and blemished in areas. Mild rubbing to edges and tips. Small neat contemporary ownership signature on title page of both volumes. While Thomas Jefferson had a copy of this French edition in his librar as a general rule he preferred English language translations. This version translated into English and first published in 1750.
