Fondée par le grand-père de Paul-Pavlovitch, puis passée à son oncle Anatoly (1812 1870), époux de la princesse Mathilde Bonaparte (1820 1904), la bibliothèque de San Donato comptait quelques 40000 volumes et fut vendue en 1880 à Florence, en même temps que le domaine et les collections dart quil renfermait.
