Soiling in a few spots in margins but generally clean and bright; binding a little shaken and loose. The first issue with 'End of Contents" on page 14 and the imprint on the verso of title page. With a signed note from Greenaway 11 Pemberton Gardens dated 21 Nov 1881 and a lithographed card with an attractive Greenaway illustration laid in. The first of the two books that Greenaway both wrote and illustrated and the book that touched off the Greenaway vogue in book illustration. Size: Octavo 8vo. Text is clean and unmarked. First edition second state "Lattice Edition". Meets all the points of issue found in Schuster & Engen 140 1b e.g. seal of the engraver at rfep recto bush at end of p18 etc. Boards printed in brown lettering inverted "G" and green lattice. Nevertheless absolutely authentic and genuine.</p> books
