Frontispiece of Liebig illustration of his laboratory on title page of Volume 1; frontispiece of Wohler and illustration of his laboratory on tile page of volume 2. Letters between two of the outstanding chemists of the nineteenth century. Liebig with Wohler established the theory of organic radicals and established the division of foods into fats carbohydrates and proteins. 1951 letters laid in to and from the Library of Congress which replies that this was the only edition that it was apparently never translated into English and that the Library of Congress did not own a copy but that a copy was reported to exist in the U.S. at the University of Washington at Seattle. Since that time the letters were reprinted at Gottingen in 1982. Slight wear some foxing to preliminary and final leaves bottom 2" of cloth on spine Vol II has been professionally repaired.
