Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) In contemporary cloth bdg. Cr. 8vo. (19 x 13 cm). In Ottoman script. 88, [1] p. Usûl-i tedris-i Arabî. Mösyö Ahn'in usûlünden muktebesdir. Translated by Ismail Hemeti b. Osman. Ismail Hâmeti is one of the teachers of Beirut Idadî School. First Edition is published in 1898 in Beyrut. The Ministry of Education of the period made some changes in the program regarding the method of teaching Arabic translation and speaking. Additionally, he wanted the change to include the program of the sixth and seventh classes of "Idadîs". In accordance with this change made by the Ministry of Education, this book was started immediately since there were no books to be taught in Arabic teaching, and it was also published after the education by the Ministry of Education, with its 422 numbered permission on August 11, 1914. The method followed in the book is in accordance with the change made by the Ministry of Education in the program. The author states that on the cover of his book he prepared his work based on the "Monsieur Ahn" [i.e. Jean Françoise Ahn] procedure. This statement shows that the authors investigate the methods that arise about language teaching and closely follow the methods which are followed in the teaching of Western languages in order to prepare books suitable for these methods. Because the author adapted the rules of the method put forward by a Western linguist to the teaching of the Arabic language and tried to prepare his book. The topics in the work are covered at a level that the reader can understand easily. The first part of the book begins with exercises on translations from Arabic to Turkish and from Turkish to Arabic. Arabic words and Turkish meanings are given across each word. As the topics progress, both the number of sample sentences and level increases gradually. In the second chapter, grammar topics are handled in the same way under the title of "Kavâid-i Esasiye". In the third part, 45 prepositions are listed first with the title "edevât". he meanings of the prepositions are given, and then each is given as an example. Karakaszâde was born in Bursa and died in Edirne. One sheikhsof the Jalvatiyya order. His works are "Nûru'l-Hüdâ li men Ihtidâ" and "Serh-i Risâle-i Hâce Cihan" and "Mürettebât Divan", which talk about mysticism and morality and are written on the old Ottoman inscription, but were written with some humble and extreme views. This book includes history of the mystic orders and tradition of Islamic and Turkish sufism. According to some claims this work by him is a plagiarist from 'Menâkibnâme-i Hâce Cihan ve Netice-i Can' by Vahidî. One copy in OCLC with mistake of author's name: 39817913.; Özege 15570. Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original wrappers. Roy. 8vo. (25 x 17 cm). In French and Ottoman script. 148, [3] p., errata. First and Only Edition of this book as well as it's the last printed example to French-Ottoman Turkish legal dictionaries. This lexicon was created by reviewing an old study on the publication of new laws. Turkish equivalents are given for French terms in the dictionary between pages 5-148. Stating that he felt the need to translate the terms of new law seen in the Turkish legislation from French to Turkish following the proclamation of the Republic, the author writes in the last word of the book that he has been carrying out preparatory work since the 2nd Constitutional Period. For this reason, the book draws attention to the richness of its responses to the terms. The first of the French-Turkish legal dictionaries is "Mecmua-i Istilahât-i Resmiye", published by Baron Ottokar in Vienna in 1870, the last example is this book printed in 1927 in Ottoman literature. First and Only Edition in book form of this work on synonyms in the Arabic language, printed for the Arabic universities as an early textbook in Bulaq Printing House. The Bulaq or El-Amiriya Press is the first official and governmental printing press to be established in Egypt, and function according to industrial printing basis, causing not just a qualitative but also a quantitative and knowledgeable leap in science throughout the Arab region. The Bulaq Press was part of Mohamed Aly's inclusive development plans for the modernization of Egypt. The Khedive, first initiated his plans by establishing a strong Egyptian army; one that is capable of strengthening his grip on the country. It thus became essential that this army be provided with the necessary instructive and educational books and material, by which to learn military plans and techniques, as well as the different types of artillery and laws that define a soldier's duties and rights. A pressing need eventually developed for establishing a governmental press; one that should provide such material. By 1815 CE., Mohamed Aly initiated the process of bringing the art of printing to Egypt by sending the first official delegation, headed by Nicole El Masabki, to Milan in Italy, to learn the principles of printing. The same delegation was later able to return and establish the first official press in Egypt. Only three copies located in OCLC: 978241754.

With a parallel title page and additional half-title in Armenian and a list of errata and corrigenda. Double-column text. Preface bilingual in Armenian and English. Following that, the second title is 'Short Armenian grammar'. After abbreviations, the dictionary section begins. In the preface, there is a short history and origin of the Armenian language written by Bedrossian according to the conjuncture of the period, followed by his mentions of the necessity of this dictionary for the literature, etc. Rare first edition of this early Armenian - English dictionary printed in Venice by Venetian Mekhitarists. In 1875, Matthias Bedrossian undertook to update earlier Armenian dictionaries, and he succeeded in producing a completely reworked Armenian-English dictionary. The most flourishing period of Venetian Armenians was in the 16th and 17th centuries, especially when Julfa and New Julfa merchants were based in the city. During the same period, Venice also became one of the most important Armenian publishing centers. It was in Venice (1512) that the first Armenian book was published by Hagop Meghabard. Until the founding of the Mekhiterists' printing press in San Lazzaro, there were 19 Armenian printing presses in Venice. (Source: Keghart). 8vo., First [?and Sole] Edition, on laid paper, some very mild age-staining; late eighteenth century full calf, neatly rebacked in calf to style, original leather label gilt preserved, red edges, a remarkably fresh, crisp copy. With the engraved armorial bookplate of a town museum and the donor's original signed presentation slip on front paste-down. Scapula's 'Lexicon' was first published by Henri Stephanus in 1557. This Appendix is dedicated to Anthony Askew (1722-1774), founder of the Bibliotheca Askeviana, and an eminent Classical scholar educated at Emmanuel College Cambridge and at Leiden. He became MD in 1750 and was appointed physician to St. Bartholomew's and Christ's hospitals, and registrar of the College of Physicians. Himself the author of a manuscript volume of Greek inscriptions, his outstanding library was sold by Baker & Leigh in 1775. See Quaritch (DEBC, p. 323). 'Askew's house was crowded with books up to the garrets. The collection was chiefly Classical, and it was its possessor's aim to have every edition of a Greek author' ([Sale catalogue of the] Bibliotheca Askeviana. Sive Catalogus Librorum Rarissimorum, Baker & Leigh, 1775). The sale of his library lasted twenty days and realised a total of £3,993 0s 6d; the principal purchasers were Dr. Hunter, Mr. Cracherode, the British Museum, and the kings of England and of France. Askew's manuscripts (presumably including those pertinent to the present work) were catalogued separately; their sale took place in 1785. The sale catalogue indicates that an appendix to Scapula's Lexicon was edited by Dr. Chas Burney in 1789 so it is likely that the present work is the title referred to. Charles Burney (1757-1817), classical scholar, was the son of Charles Burney the musician and musicologist. Since Burney the younger published numerous tracts and papers relating to Greek literature he could well be the author, but we have been unable to verify this attribution from any other source. Extremely scarce.
