One of fifty numbered copies signed by the artist in addition to six copies hors commerce and the prototype set of the etchings. The eight etchings collectively present the late artist's self-portrait with the comment: "Of course this book if you are willing to forget what a book looks like is that kind of exhibitionism Andre Breton should have called 'un livre à la porte battante'." A separate printing of Alberti's poem "Vosotros no Caisteis" in facsimile of his ms. with a French translation in type "Vous N'êtes pas Tombés" with a cover illustration signed in the image "Parilla XXXVII." This was published as an element in an interesting set of cards with a series title "Recuerdo de España" distributed for the promotion and defense of the Republic published under the direction of the Fine Arts trade union the alliance charged with some of the most important propaganda efforts during the war. The cards bear illustrations in various media and internally present both in type and in facsimile of manuscript statements in support of the cause both prose and poetry. 1967219201967. The aftermath of the Puerto Rican civil unrest in East Harlem New York City during the summer of 1967. Two silver gelatin press release photographs dated July 25 and August 1 1967. Verso captions from the Associated Press AP identify the location as Spanish Harlem and note the events as part of the broader wave of urban uprisings that swept the U.S. in the mid-1960s. Each measure 7" x 11" and 8" x 8.5". One image shows a Puerto Rican man hauling a charred bed frame through the courtyard of a burned-out tenement building remnants of the arson and destruction that spread during the riot. In the background another figure walks past scorched debris and cracked brick walls. The second photo shows a family-including a young girl clutching a doll in a box-standing amidst broken storefronts and twisted metal grates a poignant contrast of innocence amid devastation. Both images underscore the human cost of systemic neglect and urban disinvestment in New York's working-class Puerto Rican neighborhoods. The 1967 East Harlem riot broke out on July 23 sparked by deep frustrations over racism poverty inadequate housing and police brutality-conditions that mirrored unrest in other urban centers like Newark and Detroit the same summer. In Spanish Harlem tensions boiled over after a series of confrontations between Puerto Rican youth and police igniting days of violence looting and arson. Though the mainstream press often depicted these events as senseless riots Puerto Rican activists and scholars later framed them as acts of resistance against colonial-style governance and systemic disenfranchisement. As historian Johanna Fernández notes the period was marked by the emergence of a radical Puerto Rican consciousness which would soon fuel movements like the Young Lords Party founded in 1969 that demanded community control police accountability and dignity for working-class Boricuas. Both photos are in very good condition with minor edge wear and light editorial markings and stamps on verso. Typewritten AP captions and editorial hand-annotations remain intact and legible. A rare and powerful visual document of Puerto Rican resistance during one of the most turbulent periods of 20th-century American urban history these images offer primary evidence of the socioeconomic injustices that fueled revolt and the resilience of New York's Puerto Rican community in the face of abandonment and repression. unknown

Hardcover. modest shelfwear age-toning to edges of text block cheap pulpy paper; the jacket shows wear at edges and extremities a bit of soiling and light foxing on the rear panel various tiny nicks and small tears along the top and bottom edges. Originally published in Mexico in 1944 "Yo cómo pobre"; trans. "I Eat Poor" this novel "concerns the lives and loves of a group of outcasts who live in the slums of La Morena where hunger and poverty are always paramount." The author 1913-1989 began her career as a journalist in the 1920s in her home town of Torreón and after establishing herself as a columnist and a correspondent for various newspapers in Mexico and the U.S. including La Opinión de los Angeles she moved to Mexico City in 1935 joining La Prensa first as a police reporter the first woman to occupy such a position. She remained with the publication for thirty years and in 1950 was named editor of La Prensa Grafica not to be confused with the El Salvadoran publication of the same name another first for a woman in Mexico. She wrote a number of other novels and non-fiction works as well as some poetry but this book doesn't seem to have made much of a splash in its American edition and it became the only one of her books to ever be published in this country. . 1970L242Taiwan: Pirated copy 1970. Hardcover. Pirated Edition Stated First Edition. 8vo. 422pp. Cloth boards. Soon after its original publication pirated editions of the lauded novel were proliferated throughout Taiwan and China due both to censor and lack of legal authorization. After being told of the widespread piracy of his works during a visit to China in 1990 Marquez is purported to have angrily stated 'not even one hundred and fifty years after my death will my books be authorized in China.' Even still the first legal and authorized Chinese edition was published in 2011 after much publisher bidding several years before his death in 2014. This particular copy is completely in English inferring an early issue and the text itself printed from the First U.S. Edition of Harper & Row. The half-title and title pages are identical save for the removal of all publisher mention and curiously the acute accents over the words Garcia and Marquez. The copyright page also with all publisher mention removed bears the First Edition statement in identical typeface and orientation but now off-middle set on the page and above a printing statement in Taiwanese. Of the pertinent information noted in Taiwanese: sold by the Royal Family Book Co. printed by the Guangda Printing Co. and an additional statement of First Edition. The dust jacket crudely reprinted retains the original price of $7.95 but lacks the exclamation mark after the first paragraph inferring use of the second issue. VERY GOOD in Very Good dust jacket protected in a removable mylar cover. The book itself with just a hint of shelf rubbing along the edges the pages up to the first chapter are slightly waved due to the quality of paper stock a small book exchange label on the back endpaper otherwise the binding is strong and tight the text is clean and unmarked and the boards remain bright and distinct. The dust jacket shows slight shelf rubbing along the edges with several very small chips a very short closed tear at the back panel otherwise remains colorful and distinct. As pictured. Oblong format: 9" x 12-5/8" <br/><br/>This an exceedingly scarce dealership showroom catalogue in Spanish for the 1941 Ford passenger models and trucks which were introduced in October of 1940. These models included the Special the De Luxe and Super De Luxe sedans convertible cabriolet Woody Station Wagon and Coupes and others. These cars came equipped with the new 226 cubic inch L-head straing-6 and rated at 90 horsepower. The 221 cubic inch V8 remained the standard for the De Luxe and Super De Luxe models . Ford thoroughly updated their models for the 1941 model year with wide bodies that nearly covered the running boards. The front and rear fenders came in several pieces instead of just one and were now more integrated into the body and pushed the headlights up and out over the front wheels. Of interest is that this Spanish-market catalogue also integrates the 1941 truck and heavy truck models on the eve of World War II. Those include the 1 ton stake truck commercial panel trucks and vans cab-over heavy trucks and the Heavy Duty Stake among others. No institutional holdings located on OCLC. Rare. This batch consists of fifteen issues from November 1937 twenty issues from December 1937 including those for 25th and 31st December and one issue from January 1938. Numerous photographs. Several issues contain as a supplement a full-page photograph or portrait issued in a series entitled ''Figuras de la Democracia Mundial'' - the ''figuras'' include Gandhi and Paderewski.Together with: ABC - Diario Illustrado. 1937. Seville. Eight issues from November and December. Falangist daily tabloid size newspaper though each issue is much more substantial than those of the Madrid ABC each consisting of twenty to thirty pages. Several black and white photographs including one of members of the Hitler Youth visiting the ruins of Toledo.This daily founded in 1903 remains one of the three newspapers of record in Spain. In July 1936 the Madrid version was seized by the Republican government with a consequent change in its political outlook while that of Seville supported the Nationalists.
