Many of the most notable Jews in New York assembled to say goodbye to the Ben-Yehuda. The Dinner Committee, printed on the back cover, includes about 100 people, almost all are notable Rabbis, writers, artists, and business people including Celia Adler, Mordecai Kaplan, Judge Julian Mack, Henrietta Szold, Yehoash, Nathan Straus, and Israel Friedlander. Its very likely that this was the last time most of these American Jews got to see Ben Yehuda. RARE FIRST EDITION of PART ONE ONLY of an early Hebrew study book written . Hyman Hurwitz (1770-1844) - a learned Jew who became first professor of Hebrew at University College, London. This study book was written when the author conducted a private academy for Jews at Highgate, where he established a close friendship with Samuel Taylor Coleridge and corresponded with him. Coleridge once described Hurwitz as "the first Hebrew and Rabbinical Scholar in the Kingdom". In 1828, on Coleridge's recommendation, Hurwitz was elected professor of the Hebrew language and literature at University College, London. 200x130mm. XX+144 pages.
