RARE annotated German translation of letters by the legendary Hammurabi (died 1750 BC in Babylon) - the sixth king of the First Babylonian Dynasty, reigning from 1792BC to 1750BC (according to the Middle Chronology). The translator, who also wrote a comprehensive introduction to the letters and the period is Arthur Franz Eduard Ungnad (1879-1947) was an eminent scholar of Semitic languages and Assyriologist. Includes a b&w plate with reproduction of a letter by Hammurabi and a b&w frontispiece with reproduction of relief depicting Hammurabi. 144x210mm. 135 pages.
