Rare in jacket.<br/><br/>Basis for the 1951 French film directed by Robert Bresson. <br/><br/>Very Good in an about Very Good dust jacket. Owner signature to the front endpaper boards lightly foxed slightly bowed with light foxing to endpapers and page edges. Jacket frayed along the top and bottom edge with a 3/4-inch chip at the heel and a couple of small chips at the crown. A very presentable copy. Boriswood unknown books

First US edition first printing octavo size 182 pp. The name "Albert Einstein" 1879-1955 immediately conjures up in the mind of almost everyone the image a brilliant scientist whose research and findings are comprehensible to only a few. He would be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 the year after this book was published and his work led to ideas such as spacetime length contraction neutron stars and black holes - along with many other scientific concepts still being explored today. <br/><br/>Einstein published works on "special relativity" as early as 1905 and by 1916 would publish the final form of "general relativity". The two would come together in this work "Relativity The Special and General Theory" first published in London by Methuen in 1920 and in the same year in the US by Henry Holt. Basis for David Lean's Oscar-winning 1957 film starring Alec Guiness Jack Hawkins and William Holden. This copy an apparently scarce issue of the UK edition; the UK edition was bound without endpapers the first page being the half-title page though this copy was certainly issued with them. Orinigal blue gilt-printed thin wraps. 38 pp. illustrations throughout including 5 colored drypoint etchings 17.35 x 12.5" 44 x 31.8 cm. Text is in French. One of the 45 copies on Velin d'Arches paper nos. 34 to 78. Pagination seems to begin at "8" on the verso of the title-page.It ends at page 32 which is followed by a colored etching and a final page of text then one blank verso and then the limitation sheet with blank verso. Very nice copy considering how tender the original binding was. Covers protected by clear acetate. Though there is no publication date to be found in this book Worldcat has placed the date at 1930. Others have indicated 1927 and 1928. Vokaer in "Bibliographie de Marcel Vertès" places the date at 1928. Editions M.P. Tremois paperback books

A stylish twentieth century version of the illuminated manuscript which honors the tradition while not slavishly hewing to its Medieval ornamentation. 8vo. 17.5 by 11.5 cm. Unpaginated 64 pp. Rendered on vellum leaves. Contains 31 poems translated from the French by Paul Geraldy. The beautiful calligraphy is rendered primarily in black with red used for most titles and gilt reserved for the most salient titles. Most extraordinary though are the many vignette illustrations and ornaments of birds butterflies seraphs flowers stars masks and shells. These are integrated seamlessly with the text. They somehow manage to exhude a charisma without a wisp of vulgarity and their effect is bound to be sheer intoxication. The anthology of naive or deliberately simple poems "Toi et Moi" first appeared in 1912. Dedicated to Lisbet Marx who was the original owner of the manuscript and might have commissioned it. Minor rubbing to the spine bands. Clean bright and tight otherwise. <br/><br/> unknown books
