Clean sharp copy; DJ with some wear and a few short tears and creases. 'Vilmos Diószegi explorer of the relics of ancient Hungarian religion and expert on shamanism travelled a whole year through the Soviet Union with the purpose of studying the nearly extinct shamanistic religion of the Siberian peoples. Equipped with a notebook a camera and a tape-recorder he wandered through the plains of the Buryat Mongols dwelled among the Turks of the kurgan-dotted Abakan region Chagatais Beltirs roamed the ancient bear-hiding pine forests of the handful Karagas people and the land of the mountain- and plain-dwelling Soyots. He entered log-cabins round felt-yurts and conical barktents in order to question unceasingly the last witnesses of the ancient past the old and old and fatigue shamans who do not practise their ancient art anymore. The author reports on an interesting conversation with a Sagai shaman mostly about the question: 'how does one become a shaman' Some more topics: 'The Story of the First Shaman' ' copied in the Irkutsk Museum from the Hang-alov-manuscript. The song of a Karagas shaman on the occasion of the dedication of his shaman's dress and drum. The exciting discovery of a rock-carving from the bronze-age illustrating a shaman's drum the first of its kind in Siberia and testifying that shamanism existed in Siberia in that period already. Conversations with Süzükpen the famous shaman; about himself his own story about his drum and other equipment. Detailed description of the author's conversations with Potapov; about the most important part of the book in which information about shamans and shamanism is transmitted in an ob-jective analytical and evaluative man- ner. This account - the story of the 1957-58 expedition - published in this book will obviously appeal to the curiosity of many a reader.' from the DJ flap.
