Patterned boards, 1/4 leather spine, leather cover label, gilt cover/spine titles. Seems to be a reprint of the 1928 subscriber edition. No former ownership marks. Light rubbing on the front cover plate, first 5 pages show some foxing, fore-edges slightly yellowed, otherwise very clean and sound, in great shape. The grandest compendium ever gathered of esoteric lore, mythology, and historical anecdote. Filled to the brim with ancient woodcuts. A dense encyclopedia and a solid starting point from which to dive into subjects such as the Qabbala, Alchemy, Tarot, Ceremonial Magic, Neo-Platonic Philosophy, Mystery Religions, and the theory of Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry.

The table of contents, at the beginning of the book, was also annotated by Hughes with the same pen p. 11. A major figure in the African-American cultural movement known as the Harlem Renaissance, the poet and novelist Langston Hughes (1901-1967) wrote works depicting the lives of black proletarians shared between joys, disillusions, hope, etc. all tinged with jazz and blues. Pink stamp of the Publicações Pan-Americanas, a Brazilian company which imported many technical and faculty books from the United States to Brazil, on the title page. Some rubbing on the sides of the front cover, spine badly worn. Light foxing inside with no damage to the plates. Paper block is firm and sturdy. Frank Joseph Forster (1886-1948) was an American architect who designed homes in the style of French Provincial architecture during the early 20th century. His architectural designs recreating French chateaus and English Tudor homes often featured turrets. He built several homes in Connecticut including a home in Greenwich, Connecticut that was home of singer Diana Ross. In 1927 and 1929 Forster won the Architectural League Medal for Domestic architecture. In 1933 he won the Better Homes Medal for his residential designs.

PP. 340 to 363 (first volume) have slightly folded corners with no damage to the text.
