The memoirs of the celebrated actress Mary Leah Wells Sumbel circa 1769-1829 whose life off the stage was riddled with misfortunes abusive husbands and regrettable choices which she chronicles in her matter-of-fact autobiography. She also writes about many of the significant and colorful characters and actors of the theater world with whom she crossed paths. Ownership signature dated 1869 on the front blank of American journalist James Lawson 1799-1800 a friend and collaborator with many New York writers in the 19th century.
