The first edition was published in 1891. Very scarce. Pierre Lotti the pseudonym of Louis Marie-Julien Viaud was a French naval officer and novelist. He is best known for his exotic novels and short stories. Le Livre de La Pitie et De La Morte or The Book of Pity and Death was published in 1891. It is a collection of short stories based on Lotti's experiences. The stories have an element of reflection and sentimentality for Lotti. Bound in a half calf binding. Externally generally smart. Rubbing to the boards and spine resulting in loss. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally clean with marginal age toning. Offsetting to the front pastedown. Externally smart with light wear to the extremities and fading to the spine as is typical with ageing. Internally firmly bound.
