Loti explores the countrys landscapes architecture religious traditions and daily life blending admiration with melancholy. His observations highlight Indias cultural richness while reflecting on the effects of British rule. With evocative descriptions and deep emotional insight Loti presents a romantic yet subjective perspective capturing both the beauty and struggles of Indian society in a time of transition. About The Author: Pierre Loti 18501923 was a French naval officer and novelist celebrated for his exotic semi-autobiographical works. Rising to captain he traveled widely drawing inspiration from Istanbul Tahiti and Senegal. His acclaimed novels Aziyad 1879 and Le Mariage de Loti 1880 gained international recognition influencing the opera Lakm. Though he claimed he ""never read"" his literary impact was profound. Elected to the Acadmie franaise in 1892 Lotis evocative storytelling captured the romance and melancholy of distant lands. 2020BIBHB0210196982020. Hardcover. New. About the Book:-The author reveals that the book is description of Indias natural beauty with its forests and its jungles. The sun dawns on a forest of vegetation an ocean of eternal greenery; whilst a boundless plain of mystery and silence stretches from his feet to the extreme horizon. He watches the light dawning on this silent wilderness of green from the summit of a hill that rises like an island out of the plains. It is India of the forests and the jungles though veiled in mist. In the centre of Ceylon sheltered by interlacing trees there is a spot of profoundest peace : it is the place where the marvellous Anuradhapura stoodthe city which was buried in a night of leaves more than two thousand years ago. It is a wonderfully fascinating book conveying vivid pictures of the charm of India and the marvels of its antiquity. The book contains six chapters. It discusses The Buried City The Rock Temple The Home of the Maharajah of Travancore In the Land of the Great Palms In Famished India Towards Benares and an Index. It contains also 18 beautiful illustrations to delineate the subject vividly. The book was first published in June 1906. About the Author:-Pierre Loti was a French naval officer and novelist known for his exotic novels and short stories. In 1899 and 1900 Loti visited British India with the view of describing what he saw; the result appeared in 1903 in L'Inde sans les anglais India without the English. During the autumn of 1900 he went to China as part of the international expedition sent to combat the Boxer Rebellion. He described what he saw there after the siege of Peking in Les Derniers Jours de Pkin The Last Days of Peking 1902.At his best Pierre Loti was unquestionably the finest descriptive writer of the day. In the delicate exactitude with which he reproduced the impression given to his own alert nerves by unfamiliar forms colors sounds and perfumes he was without a rival. But he was not satisfied with this exterior charm; he desired to blend with it a moral sensibility of the extremist refinement at once sensual and ethereal. Many of his best books are long sobs of remorseful memory so personal so intimate that an English reader is amazed to find such depth of feeling compatible with the power of minutely and publicly recording what is felt. About The Author : Pierre Loti 1850 1923 was a French naval officer and novelist known for his exotic novels and short stories. Born to a Protestant family Loti's education began in his birthplace Rochefort Charente-Maritime. At age 17 he entered the naval school in Brest and studied at Le Borda. He gradually rose in his profession attaining the rank of captain in 1906. In January 1910 he went on the reserve list. He was in the habit of claiming that he never read books saying to the Acadmie franaise on the day of his introduction 7 April 1892 ""Loti ne sait pas lire"" ""Loti doesn't know how to read"" but testimony from friends proves otherwise as does his library much of which is preserved in his house in Rochefort. In 1876 fellow naval officers persuaded him to turn into a novel passages in his diary dealing with some curious experiences in Istanbul. The result was the anonymously published Aziyad 1879 part romance part autobiography like the work of his admirer Marcel Proust after him.
