Sixteenth printing. Quarter black pebbled leather by Birdsall & Son Northampton over brown textured cloth boards; gilt spine titling marbled edges. Some rubbing especially at the corners and hinges. Text in French has a few spots of foxing browned edges endsheets and original now bound-in front wrapper are tanned. The label of London bookseller P. Rolandi is also on the front wrapper. This book was the property of Victorian novelist 'Lucas Malet' Mary St. Leger Kingsley Harrison with her bookplate on the front pastedown and signature and date 1890 on the front wrapper. 'Mon Frere Yves' 'My Brother Yves' is Loti's semi-autobiographical novel and is regarded as his best-known book. It describes the friendship between him and a hard drinking Breton sailor named Yves Kermadec during the 1870s and 80s. Overall in Good to VG condition - binding remains firm some scuffing with loss of the leather at the corners rubbing/cracking along both joints. There is some staining along the gilt top edge and there is spotting to the fore-edge. Former owner's small bookplate to the front paste-down.
