Limited edition number 18 of 171 copies on 'arches paper 150 for sale of which only sixty were watercolored the others were never finished. 202 1 pages; illustrated with 100 original drawings in-text and full-page hand watercolored by Georges L. Guyot. Considered one of the most beautiful books illustrated by Guyot. CUSTOM BINDING by J. Franklin Mowery Master Bookbinder and former Head Conservator Folger Shakespeare Library. In a signed letter laid-in Mowery states that that the binding was designed and executed by him in 1974. He goes on to state that it was the first binding he ever sold and the first binding he did in vellum. Provenance: bookplate of John Wallace Skinner. Lovely half morocco fine binding with flowers and fox color decoration on spine and vertical lines all done in an Art Nouveau style. Morocco is over textured marbled boards which match endpapers of card stock. Lovely color illustrations. Preliminaries the first page of story and a few leaves afterward have light to moderate foxing. Some sunning to leather spine an edges of boards. Slight crack of leather in upper front along gutter line. Binding is tight and beautiful and overall very good plus copy. Editions Rombaldi unknown
