Top edge gilt other edges uncut pictorial endpapers xxxv iii 225 3pp with black line illustrations including tissue guarded frontispiece by William Heath-Robinson. There is some toning to the spine a little rubbing to the spine tips with a hint of fraying at the head of the spine and a touch of bruising to the corners more so to the top two. Internally clean without name inscription or bookplate and with just a touch of toning to the uncut edges. All in all a very good looking 1st Edition of the Heath-Robinson illustrated Poems of Edgar Allen Poe with beautiful Art Nouveau illustrations. A difficult to find book. Octavo each volume approximately 7.5" x 5" pagination varies by volume. Each volume with one illustrated frontispiece. Cloth lightly rubbed at extremities with minor bumping to corners and spine ends; gilt bright and bindings sound across the set no cracked hinges. Text blocks generally clean. Each volume has a handwritten "June 1965" in small lettering at the upper edge of the front flyleaf. A tight uniform set in original publisher's cloth. This is the issue with the frontispiece of Edgar Allen Poe facing page 49 and the first published biography of him on pages 49-53. James Russell Lowell's article on Poe includes the following poems in the February issue: "To Helen" "The Haunted Palace" "Lenore" and the controversial "Al Aaraaf". In the July issue his "The Imp of the Perverse" actually states his name as the author with a hand colored picture of flowers on the facing page. The October issue has his unsigned poem "The Divine Right of Kings". and his "The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof. Fether" is identified as his. Finally the December issue has his "Stanzas to F.S.O". While all the poems listed here are by Poe some did not list him as author.Bound in 3/4 calf over marbled paper covered boards handsomely rebacked double black leather spine label gilt. George R.
