355490716642London: Macmillan 1975. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. Signed by Author. First UK Edition. SIGNED & INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR IN THE YEAR OF PUBLICATION. Publisher's brown boards with black lettering to the spine. A VG copy with the usual uniform page browning to the text block and edges. The spine of the book is just a touch faded and the boards are slightly bumped. The D/W however is a most attractive fine example and very scarce thus. INSCRIBED BY THE LATE AUTHOR ON THE FFEP: "For my very dear kindly and civilized/ friends Peter & Liza./ Colin Dexter 24.5.75". The recipients Peter and Liza Simon were old Leicester-based friends of the author from his time when he taught classics initially in Leicester and later in Loughborough. Contemporary inscriptions to friends of this type by Colin Dexter are uncommon. This is a much nicer example of the D/W than normally seen. The first Inspector Morse novel from one of the most pre-eminent detective fiction authors of the second half of the twentieth century. Macmillan hardcover
