The plain unadorned covers have some wear at the edges but all leather is intact hinges are starting innerboards and endpapers have browned edges foxing wear and soil. Inside a frontispiece depicts the author holding a copy of this volume. This is an apparent first edition but the lineage is somewhat unclear as a later edition 1848 was declared to be a first as well. The book contains essays on issues of morality civic duty and so on including a "miniature" biography of George Washington and documents such as the Declaration of Independence etc. 272 pages plus 48-page index; approx. 5"x8".
