(wiki) // Durch die Bekker'sche Ausgabe des Aristoteles ist für die Texteskritik der aristotelischen Schriften ein so bedeutender Schritt geschehen, als es der Umfang der dazu aufgebotenen Mittel und der Name des Herausgebers erwarten liess; dafür kann jede Seite des Bekker'schen Textes, verglichen mit den früheren Ausgaben, Zeug-niss geben. Dennoch kann für die Aufgabe der Kritik, den aristotelischen Text seiner ursprünglichen Gestalt möglichst anzunähern, Bekker's Recension und kritischer Apparat nur als Grundlage, nicht als ein wenigstens zeitweiser Abschluss betrachtet werden. Bekker hat mit der Schärfe seines Blickes und der Sicherheit seines Urthei-les aus der Menge der ihm zugänglichen Handschriften diejenigen herausgehoben und bei der Feststellung des Textes vorzugsweise benützt, die sich auch einer erneuten Prüfung als die glaubwürdigsten erweisen; aber diese Bevorzugung ist gegenüber der vorherigen Vulgata nicht immer mit der Strenge durchgeführt, welche dem wohlbegründeten Urtheile gebührt hätte. Ferner hat die bei der grossen Aristoteles-Ausgabe vorgenommene Theilung der Arbeit, dass die Herausgabe der Auszüge aus den griechischen Erklärern von der Feststellung des aristotelischen Textes getrennt wurde, diesem Texte die Ergebnisse entzogen, die sich aus jener wichtigen Quelle gewinnen liessen.
