A very small pocket edition of this famous text, usually ascribed to Robert Dodsley, but now accepted to be written mostly by Lord Stanhope. Indian antiquities and philosophy were all the rage and the polite fiction of the "discovered Indian manuscript" lent it an air of authority. It was first published in 1750 and was extremely popular over the next century. It was avidly read in America. This very small edition is a most unusual find. OCC 14
