Locke 1863-1930 was a prolific British writer best known for his short stories but he also wrote many novels and plays. from 1894 until his death in 1930. According to the Chambers Biographical Dictionary his "long series of novels and plays which with their charmingly written sentimental themes had such a success during his life in both Britain and America. His plays some of which were dramatized versions of his novels were all produced with success on the London Stage." His books were often on the US best-selling lists and many were adapted to film or stage. Idols tells the story of 4 innocent people whose lives were turned to turmoil by a murder committed by two robbers who were eventually captured and executed. This incident set ablaze a train of events that made the 4 protagonists "almost impersonal instruments of destiny." Octavo. Blue cloth-covered boards with light grey title to spine.
