According to the Chambers Biographical Dictionary his "long series of novels and plays which with their charmingly written sentimental themes had such a success during his life in both Britain and America. His plays some of which were dramatized versions of his novels were all produced with success on the London Stage." His books were often on the US best-selling lists and many were adapted to film or stage. Idols tells the story of 4 innocent people whose lives were turned to turmoil by a murder committed by two robbers who were eventually captured and executed.
